Just when the pandemic seems over, there is another frightening thing.

You who read this may look to it for diversion, but there are some days when I just can’t come up with anything that might do the trick.

Everyone on our side of the globe feels helpless, and we drag ourselves to watch the news with a new sense of foreboding. The danger can’t be averted by a vaccine or a mask, if only it were that simple.

The pandemic–was it practice for this, now? Did it get us in the right frame of mind for war and the sort of deaths that war brings? I don’t know. I, like you, am overwhelmed by a sense of loss and worry.

Hope. I am looking all over for it.
